Forestry and agriculture at Gisselfeld Kloster

The forest estate comprises 2350 hectares including lakes, bogs, meadows and roads – and functions as a traditional forestry operation with timber production, as well as significant production of Christmas trees and greenery. Certified forestry
Gisselfeld Forest District was certified PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes Denmark in 2004.
This means that the forest today is managed in such a way that sustainability and traceability are part of the forest's objective. The certification also entails that external auditors regularly carry out checks. This is to ensure that these standards are adhered to.
As part of the certification, areas have been designated in certain parts of the forest where the forest is largely left untouched to support high biodiversity. These areas have been particularly selected based on locations with high natural values, for example, around lakes and streams.
