Private woods

Guests are welcome in the forest

Gisselfeld Kloster naturally shares its beautiful forests with the public, and it is possible to find many special experiences in the lovely countryside.

The many lakes are to a large extent artificially created as carp ponds and are considered part of Denmark's first carp production.

The dramatic meltwater ravines are entirely unique and can be found in several places within the forests. The best known are Svenskekløften and the ravine in Denderupvænge around Brødebækken, where the slopes are up to 20-25 metres high.

The rules must be followed

Gisselfeld Skovdistrikt is privately owned. Special rules apply to public access in private forests, and visitors to the forests are asked to comply with these rules. This is to ensure that both commercial and recreational activities can take place without problems.

In private forests, you may:

  • Open from 6:00 am to sunset
  • Only ride on roads and paths – except for paths that are simply trodden
  • Do not cut or trim anything from the trees
  • Gather mushrooms, nuts, berries, seeds, pinecones from the forest floor, moss, lichen, branches and twigs – but only what can be reached from the road and path.
  • Can be ridden by arrangement with the owner
  • Only cycling on paved roads, but never on forest floors
  • Keep the dog on a lead
  • Never dig up plants
